Storefront for Akimbo Bookshop!
Donation protected
We just hit our one-year anniversary – and after overwhelming community support for our inception as an online shop (and soon after, for our pop-ups around the city) we have decided to launch a campaign to give Akimbo a brick-and-mortar home in downtown Rochester.
Oh yes, we have a particular space in mind: a historic building located near our beloved Little Theater (and truly, what pairs better than indie films and indie books?). Here, we would be close to even more of our favorite community spaces like The Op Shop, Java's, Ugly Duck, RoCo, and the Eastman Theater.
These funds would specifically help us get a start with rent, inventory, build-out, and a POS.
Akimbo isn’t just woman-owned, it’s single mom owned.
Akimbo isn’t just woman-owned, it’s single mom owned.
Crowdfunding campaigns are typical for bookstores, and there's a reason why: bookstores give back to the community and serve as a resource and meeting place. Community gathering is inherent to bookstores. Akimbo will be a space where people can come together and ideas can flourish, where authors can ignite discussions and help us revolutionize those ideas. It will be a place where the introverts can find introspection and the extroverts find conversation. Where book clubs and writing groups are seen not as peripheral to the arts but integral to the arts – just as important to community growth.
We're so humbled by your support, your incessant encouragement, and helping us bring Akimbo to its next chapter.
