Storm Babet: House Destroyed
Donation protected
In the early hours of Friday 20 October, Storm Babet overwhelmed the river that runs alongside my house. It burst its banks and breached the street around 4.30am while we slept. The French windows at the front and the windows front and back soon began pouring water up to waist height and higher. The water in the sockets blew the fuses out and the house became pitch dark while the water rose at an exponential rate. We packed what we could before the water became too high and we escaped out of my window with our dog. We were escorted to the motorway in the pouring rain with the clothes on our back.
I have lost all of my belongings. Every photograph, every item of clothing, my phone, wallet, bank cards, money and every item of furniture. The flooding damage is so severe we won’t be able to return.
Sadly our insurance policy isn’t covering this flood so have to pay out of pocket which means the family house is now a loss for us.
We have lost everything. We am thankful we am alive and our dog is alive and healthy. We are all shaken and devastated and still in shock. I can't access my bank accounts as they are on my phone which was lost in the flood.
We are currently sleeping on a family members sofa and applying for emergency grants.
We am seeking some assistance to rebuild our lives. The deposit for a new home ,clothes, food for us and for the dog and for basic necessities to survive for the next few weeks/months until we can sort something else financially alongside the immense cost of removing all damaged goods from the house. We really appreciate anything little or large.
