Storm's Tumor Removal Surgery Fund

Hi, my name is Anna and I am fundraising for a splenectomy surgery to save my dog, Storm's, life.

On November 12, 2021, I took Storm for a routine check-up at the vet, expecting her to walk away with a clean bill of health. Instead, the vet felt her abdomen and immediately ordered imaging. The imaging showed a growth on her spleen that was getting larger. The vet explained that there is a 2/3 risk of it being cancerous and that even if it is not cancerous, the tumor would likely continue to grow and cause massive damage to her internal organs. The tumor type is such that it is not a solid mass - instead, the tumor is filled with blood, and therefore as it grows will rupture and cause, in the vet's words, "catastrophic internal damage."

The question is not IF the tumor will spread and rupture, but rather WHEN. At this point, given Storm's stability and otherwise strong health, the vet has encouraged me to move forward with a spleen removal surgery as soon as possible in order to avoid tumor growth, spread of tumors to other healthy organs and tissues, and, of course, a deadly internal bleed. The estimate is about $6,000, which is not something I am able to fund on my own as a public school teacher and special educator.

I love this dog with my whole heart. She is my best friend and the light of my life. She is registered legally as my support dog and is nothing but gentle, kind, and quietly goofy.

My goal has always been to keep Storm safe, happy, and comfortable since I adopted her as a senior surrender from the ACC 5 years ago. Failure to go forward with this surgery would be sentencing Storm to a future of extreme pain, a likely far more expensive and dangerous future emergency surgery, and ultimately significantly less time together.

I know many of you donated to save her foot from a rapid-spread and anti-biotic resistant staph infection last spring, but please consider donating, sharing, and wishing Storm a healthy recovery.
