StoryBook Trail Restoration
Donation protected
My name is Joseph Gonsalves, an Eagle Scout from Troop 32 in Foxboro, MA. In 2017, I built the StoryBook Trail at the newly renovated Lane Property off of North Street. The StoryBook Trail is a half-mile loop with 25 posts along the trail, each with a page of a children's book covered in plexiglass, so as the child and their family walk the entirety of the trail, they have finished the book. The Kindergartners at the Igo Elementary school also visit the StoryBook Trail as a field trip every June. Since the first hour the posts were installed, they have been vandalized numerous times. The vandals have ripped up the posts entirely, broken the plexiglass covers, taken and destroyed laminated pages of the books, and have thrown posts into the woods, where they could not be found for several days. I am raising $3500 for the restoration of the posts along the trail, and to purchase trail cameras to put along the trail for security measures. With the help of some of my former Scout leaders, we have created a new plexiglass cover to hold the pages, where one sheet of plexiglass is bordered by wood, so the plexiglass can not be removed. Trail cameras will provide security of my project by future vandals, so they will be seen on camera, and to be prosecuted. My project has been vandalized multiple times, and unfortunately the people responsible have yet to be identified. I hope this will bring the end to vandalization of the StoryBook Trail, so families can finally enjoy the trail to it's fullest extent for years to come. Thank you in advance for your support, I will continue to keep you all updated as we progress.
