STP Elective Charity Visit to Zimbabwe
Donation protected
Hello! We are a group of Audiology students on the Scientist Training Programme (STP), and in November 2019 we will be travelling to Zimbabwe as part of our Elective to take part in a charity mission. We are raising funds for travel to Zimbabwe and accommodation for when we are out there; any extra money raised will go directly to the charity Hear to Aid.
In Zimbabwe hearing losses are often not identified until children are school-aged by which point their language development has been affected. We will be volunteering with the charity Hear to Aid, a non-profit organisation helping children and young people with hearing impairments in Zimbabwe to access audiology care. We will be volunteering in clinics in the capital city, Harare, as well as a bush clinic in Hwange. We'll be testing children's hearing and any identified to have a hearing loss will be offered hearing aids. We will also be helping to assess and treat infections.
Whilst in Zimbabwe, we are also going to be presenting a guest lecture at the University - they have a fairly new Audiology course and we hope that by talking to the new students we will be able to inspire them to become Audiologists as well as sharing our knowledge.
Thanks for reading, any donations will be greatly appreciated! Stay tuned for updates!
