Stratford Youth Council Walkathon 2020
Donation protected
The 9 members of the Stratford Youth Council plan to collectively walk 150kms over a 24 hour period during their 4th Annual Walkathon Event. Members will take turns walking the Stratford Town Centre track to raise money towards their future initiatives. There will always be at least one Youth Council member walking on the track for the entire event. Volunteers will be on hand to collect donations from the public over the 24 hours.
The event will begin at 8:00 am on Friday, November 20th and run straight through until Saturday, November 20th at 8am.
The public is encouraged to show support for these dedicated youth on their Facebook event page. Donations will be accepted the weeks prior to the event right up until the last lap is completed and on Go Fund Me for the entire weekend.
Proceeds from this event, will help with the Youth Council Holiday Projects, which include sponsoring some local families in need during the holidays and creating care packages that will be distributed to the homeless on PEI.
Due to the many Covid restrictions, the Youth council has not been able to do a lot of their regular fundraising. They are hoping for some generous donations from the public online.
The Stratford Youth Council
In 2015, the Town of Stratford created a Youth Council through the Stratford Youth Centre to engage young people and to provide an opportunity for them to voice their opinions and concerns regarding youth issues in our community. The Council has been very active in helping plan community events, fundraising, and helping non profits and charities over the past few years.
The current Youth Council has 9 members, boys and girls in Grades 10—12. In 2019, the Stratford Youth Council was responsible for 810 Community Service Volunteer Hours in Stratford.
In 2020, the Stratford Youth Council looks to continue to sponsor and host events and help various charities.
