Background

My name is Andrew Norman and I am a WPBSA Advanced coach snooker based at Stratford Sports Snooker Club located in the beautiful Stratford Upon Avon.

The Snooker club is a community amateur sports club with CASC status with around 120 members, 4 tables and is run on a self serve basis by the members.

The club runs to a effiecent price point for its members to keep playing costs low and follows a non-profit ethos.

Disaster happened when the snooker club was flooded on 2nd January 2024 as the River Avon burst its banks. Despite all the clubs efforts to save the snooker room building with flood defences pre installed upon flood warnings, the room was swamped with dirty river water to level of 1ft deep.

Once the water had receeded and we were able to access the snooker room it was not a good scene.

The good news was the snooker tables survived.

The bad news is that the floor carpet has been destroyed, the walls need repairing and snooker eqipment has been lost.

Unfortunately, the club had no flood insurance to fall back on as we are located on a flood plain, the estimated cost of refurbisment is around £15,000.
