Driving home one night, I came upon a dog bleeding to death that had obviously been hit by a car. I couldn’t leave it to die on the street, in the cold and rain, so I quickly drove it to the local emergency vet. “Stella” was gushing blood, bleeding from the brain, and given a slim chance of survival, but she made it through the night. Despite it all, Stella wags her tail and strives for human affection. After 3 days, hospital bills have exceeded $2,500, but ask yourself: Could you leave a dog to die on the side of the road?
