Strayer's Medical Fund
Donation protected
Strayer suffered a stroke in utero. This has resulted in Strayer having Severe Spastic Quadriplegia Cerebral Palsy, Cortical visual Impairment, and Epilepsy.
Strayer is a joyful, amazing child who is loved, adored and doted on by his family. He was predicted not to live, or to have zero quality of life at best. Strayer has been exceeding expectations since diagnosis.
Raising a child with extra needs like Strayer is costly and can be hard on a family and their budget, especially when only one parent can provide income because the other parent needs to stay home as Strayer's caregiver, which is a 24/7 job.
Some examples of where your generous donations will be used are...
Strayer has a long list of specialists he visits often, Strayer lives over 50 miles from all of his specialists. With the cost of fuel and occasional lodging, travel to these specialists can be hard. Unexpected hospital trips and admissions hit the budget hard.
Strayer visits a chiropractor every other week, this has been an amazing treatment for Strayer, though it is not at all covered by insurance so it costs $40 out of pocket each visit.
Strayer received his first wheelchair recently. Unfortunately the family vehicle is not large enough to transport everyone and the wheelchair together. It is also beginning to experience mechanical difficulties as it is nearly 20 years old and has over 220,000 miles on it. This is a difficult time for buying a new vehicle, especially a large family vehicle.
One thing that has helped Strayer immensely is Intensive Therapies. Strayer has attended Intensive sessions thanks to amazing supporters and their generosity. The progress Strayer has made due to these intensives has been absolutely amazing. And yet there is so much more progress to be made. To be able to attend more intensives would mean improving Strayer's progress even further. Unfortunately, Intensive sessions are expensive and require travel and often lodging, to attend requires fundraising and saving pennies.
Strayer's family is feeling quite cramped in their home with the accumulation of all of Strayer's medical equipment and needs. They have chosen to build an addition onto the home to give Strayer a room of his own for all his Therapy needs. They have been working on it slowly as funds become available.
Thank you in advance for your generosity.
