Stray dog hit by car needs surgery (amputation)

I received a text Friday morning from a neighbor with pictures of a puppy on the side of the road, just around the corner from my house. I grabbed a bowl and water, ran out the door around the corner to a little puppy, wagging his tail, licking my hand, but couldn't walk. He was so thirsty he drank 3 bowls of water!

I carried him home and drove him to 3 vets before I could find one to take him immediately. His rear left leg was bleeding and just hanging there.

The vet examined him and gave him a pain shot and did x-rays. His knee is crushed. His leg cannot be fixed and needs to be amputated.

The first vet bill was $1200. The amputation will be an additional ????

I named him Atlas. PLEASE HELP! He is estimated to be about 6 months old and he deserves a chance at life.
