Stretch Hands Uganda (SHU) is a nonprofit and nongovernmental  organization,  non partisan   which is run by Adults and youths of different disciplines in close cooperation with local communities in Rubanda District of Uganda. This  is aimed at providing sustainable support to the disadvantaged and at risk members of the Bakiga and Batwa communities of South Western Uganda to access support in form of  quality health services, education services, improved incomes and human rights awareness
The Mission of the Organization is to identify and recognize needs of Vulnerable Children by promoting and carrying out activities that ensure conducive environments for their proper upbringing in communities of Rubanda District.

Theproject objectives are majorly but not limited to:
- To promote literacy in the local communities through child sponsorship programs
to vulnerable children
- To promote quality education by constructing and managing primary school education program
- To provide food supplements to the malnourished children in the community
- To provide   a home for the homeless, distressed and HIV/AIDS Vulnerable children
- To provide better health through sensitization  programs and construction of rain water harvesting systems and tanks
- To improve the quality of life in Rubanda District by constructing and managing health facilities including an Outpatients Department, Maternity Unit and Ward facilities.
- To create employment for the local population through the construction projects described above

Stretch Hands Uganda (SHU)  will  provide a  Children’s Home that will provide children with a safe and stable home, education and support throughout their childhood. This will be a solution of solving the problems hidden by the fact that orphans and vulnerable children are invisible; yet by the very nature of their situation, they are included among those that are classified as disadvantaged and poor in Uganda. The best gift one can give to a struggling African child is education, because once he or she acquires a good academic knowledge and documents, they have the power to compete in the labour market and hence  can be self sustaining.

In Rubanda district like any other areas of the World, there is growing number of vulnerable and homeless children caused by HIV/AIDS and other illnesses, domestic violence, poverty, polygamy, among the communities of Batwa and Non- Batwa. These children are often abandoned with no way of finding a helping hand

According to UNESCO 2003 study on Children in Abject Poverty in Uganda indicates that: Ill health and inadequate health services remain critical challenges for children in abject poverty. This is aggravated by the living conditions of children in almost all the districts of Uganda where the pilot study was carried out.
