Strong for Suzy

Our friend Suzy is a warm, kind and gentle soul, she is one of those people who would give you the shirt off her back and not think anything of it. Suzy worked at various racetracks doing something she absolutely loved - galloping magnificent race horses. She truly loves the horses and dedicated her life and career to them...then things began to change a few years ago, people retired and work was getting harder to find. She suffered life hardships, paying her bills became harder, plus she was and still is taking care of her aging mother, who needs special attention. We did not know the full scope of her situation because she is such a private and proud person, never one to take handouts from anyone. A few weeks ago Suzy was diagnosed with rectum cancer. In the last few months she had lost a lot of weight, has been in constant pain and agonizing fatigue. She is also anemic due to blood loss from her tumor. Her once muscular body is now very frail. This is very hard to watch because she has always been such an independent, energetic and happy person. She is not able to work which makes it hard to pay her living expenses and medical bills
She is starting chemo to shrink the tumor to possibly save her from having to wear a colostomy bag for the rest of her life. After 5 weeks of Chemo, the doctors at Mount Sinai will determine how best to proceed with the surgery to remove the tumor.
