Structural Assessment & Repairs of Historic Church

RCT Project Background

Built circa 1830, the former Catholic Church and most recently a woodworking shop, located at the intersection of Rt. 12-A and Warren Mountain Rd., has been a fixture of the Roxbury, VT historic Village for nearly 200 years. The building is now owned and operated by the Allied Community Development Collective, Inc, a federal 501(c)3 non-profit registered to do business as (d/b/a) Roxbury Community Trust.

Roxbury Community Trust (RCT) began as a way to preserve an iconic structure in our historic Village. We established a mission to "promote the development of community spaces that support social, cultural, economical and educational opportunities for our town."

Driving our goals is a model of “community supported enterprises” where a non-profit owns real estate outfitted for a specific purpose. The spaces may then be affordably rented to an operator, whether that might be a business, organization or municipality, who otherwise might not be able to afford fit-up costs. This model increases business opportunities for emerging entrepreneurs, creates local employment, and provides a needed service to the community.

The long term future function of the building is still being determined; RCT is dedicated to the space becoming a benefit to the entire community and is using that criterion to guide plans for the future.

Structural Assessment and Repairs Needed

This year, RCT is raising money to take a deeper look at the structural condition of the timber frame, and begin fundraising for those larger repairs. In addition, more urgent remediation is needed for the roofing, flashing and siding damaged from years of water, snow and ice building up where the newer addition attaches to the historic structure.
