Structure Damage by vehicle and fire
Donation protected
On September 7, 2024, Shaneka Cannon was outside packing her car when she suddenly heard a loud crash. A drunk driver in a pickup truck had lost control, crashing into her home in Saginaw, Michigan, and tearing down mailboxes and street signs along the way. Shaneka had to run for her life.
After falling to the ground, she quickly ran to her bedroom where her newborn was sleeping. She found her baby under debris from the crash, which had hit two bedrooms. Her 9-year-old was screaming hysterically in the adjacent bedroom. With both children crying, Shaneka managed to get them out of the house.
The truck, now lodged in her home, caught fire. The house sustained significant smoke, fire, electrical, and structural damage. The drunk driver was ejected from the vehicle and landed on the roof of the one-story ranch. Both the children and the driver were taken to the hospital for observation.
Shaneka, who is on unpaid maternity leave from her job as an ABA Technician, is now displaced and traumatized. She did not have homeowners insurance and is struggling with depression and hopelessness. She has not yet heard from the police or detectives about what will happen next.
Shaneka needs help repairing her home and finding a safe place for her and her three young children. Her sister is trying to obtain estimates for repairs. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated. Thank you for your support.
