Stuart emergency surgery
Donation protected
Sadly once again we have to ask for help. The artery operation Stuart had 4 years ago which was supposed to save his leg is now causing huge problems. He has had a hole in his groin for 4 years which has never healed.
The cause of that is now apparent as one of the prosthetic arteries is working its way out of his leg. The vascular surgeon that did the operation is the only one on island and for obvious reasons we will not let him within an a mile of Stuart. As we speak I believe he is being sued by a number of people. Lawsuits at this point will get us nowhere.
Through another doctor we have found a surgeon from Trinidad who is willing to come here and take the whole graft out (it is no longer needed). The bad news is this is going to cost around £20,000. With Stuart unable to work and our costs over the 4 years now around EC300k we just don’t have those kind of funds.
Flying to South Africa or another country is out of the question as the grafts may blow completely.
The seriousness of the matter was put to us this morning from our Doctor. Quote” I would start fundraising asap as the surgeons feelings surrounding the blown artery is the gas in the graft has a very bad bacteria in there and there is a possibility of sepsis occurring sooner rather that later.” For us it is very difficult to ask again for help but the situation is very serious. Thank you if you can help.
