Stuart Slotnick (Stuart Elliott-radio/social media name) #StuartStrong
This is one of the rare instances where Facebook did precisely what it was intended to do - it connected three childhood friends bridging a time span of more than 30 years and opposite coasts in distance. However, there was a shadow cast over what should have been an otherwise happy reunion, one of us was staring down a diagnosis of Stage 4 Colon Cancer. Stuart approaches cancer like he does life: straight-forward, with humor and determination. His Facebook posts have taken so many of us along on his journey - through the hard realities of living with cancer and the roller coaster of victories and defeats along the way. Through it all, Stuart has had the amazing love and support of countless people from all phases of his life. He has been so forthright with his expressions of gratitude. We have all encouraged him, telling him “You’ve Got This!” and bolstered him through the twists and turns of treatment. We constantly wished we could do something to help make a difference in Stuart’s life and take something off of his plate. So, we have asked him as a gift to us - those who feel far away or not quite sure how to help - to allow us to set up this GoFundMe account. Being generous of spirit, Stuart has agreed. He is teaching us daily about the meaning of grace.
We have asked for Stuart’s story in his words:
In February 2017 I was diagnosed with Stage 4 Colon Cancer. I had 8" of colon removed. Then I was told it was in my body for 2 years, and in that time, it jumped to my right liver (70% tumor) and my lungs went from 1 nodule, to 2, to 4 and now I have 5 nodules that are cancerous.
I also recently found out I have a lymph node that is cancerous, too. I found out 3 weeks ago, after 24 series of chemotherapy, that the tumor has shrunk, less than .05 of 1% I will start my new (3rd) chemo, which may be an oral/pill. In 6-8 weeks, if something doesn't happen, I am stopping chemo treatment.
If a miracle hasn't happened in a year, I don't expect one to all of a sudden, pop up. Any donations will help me to clear up a few medical bills, and once I stop chemo, to do a little traveling with my significant other (She's a retired nurse, and if it wasn't for her, I’d already be gone) in the U.S. before I can no longer do that.
If I come off chemo in 8 weeks, then I have roughly 2-3 months before my quality of life deteriorates and I punch the clock of life. I'm totally at peace with the events over the last year, and the whole situation. I'd just like to go out, scratching off a few bucket list items. I thank you for your time, and if you can't donate, I understand.
Stuart has had a wonderful career in South Florida radio and is still bringing music to the lives of many. We hope you can show your support with a donation - no amount is too small. We want the “Boy Wonder” to remain forever #StuartStrong.
We give this page to you with love, Rhonda & Liz
