The Cougar Claw Student Newspaper Kearns High

Help us raise the money to support the journalism program at Kearns High School!Their Newspaper, THE COUGAR CLAW, is currently distributed into the community via local stores and community places in the Township. The Cougar Claw is a student-run newspaper at Kearns High School that these students create and send out also as a community newspaper. The students work hard to produce a quality paper and now we want to expand this to bring back a community newspaper to Kearns, Utah. The funds will be used to cover occasional costs for busses to give the students opportunities for journalism-related field trips, Cougar Claw Newsstands, and possibly provide new equipment for the students to use such as cameras for news photos, additional computers, etc. They do have an online website where they post their stories. This project has helped get some of the papers to members of the community who may not have the means to see the online stories. This will benefit the entire community as the students have been encouraged to cover KHS stories as well as stories that affect the entire Kearns Metro Township community!
Kathryn Wilkins, the Journalism Teacher and Advisor for the Newspaper stated, "The Kearns High School journalism program offers a unique opportunity for students to engage with their school and community. Students learn about the importance of writing, media literacy, newspaper production, and much more. Our program gives students a rare chance to see their work published within the school and community. We need support from our friends and neighbors to keep this program running and help it thrive as a much-needed source of news and information in our community. Any help that you can offer would be greatly appreciated."
Currently the Cougar Claw is distributed to locations in Kearns, Utah such as the senior center, senior living center, Community Action Center, local restaurants, stores, Kearns Oquirrh Park Fitness Center, and other places around the community. We will be so grateful for your help with this! Help us get the funding we need to provide these students with the best opportunity to become true journalists.
