Students with Visual Impairments Documentary

Donation protected
Students with Visual Impairments have different educational needs than sighted children. Khara and Tristan, two students with visual impairments, as well as professionals on each of their educational teams, will share their experiences and advocate for specialized professional development for educators of students with visual impairments. In this documentary, our focus will be on team cohesion, the socialization of students, and ways to make teaching more equitable. The parents and disability experts participating are excited for this opportunity to bring attention to the community of individuals with visual impairments, positive change and support for the teachers who go above and beyond for their students.

Asia Dobbins, one of our producers, worked as a paraprofessional and saw a unique need for one of her students. After working with Tristan for seven years, she thought that a documentary detailing his needs and those of other students with visual impairments could make a difference in educators’ perceptions of visual impairment and how they approach it.

Paired with Rachel Banks, a Detroit filmmaker, we plan to use the funds raised to bring this documentary to life. It will go towards gear, production supplies, and crew.
