Affordable Artspace Opening*Studio Union Start
Donation protected
As a founder of cone 10 studios, a collective ceramic maker space, we said goodbye to our building this summer and our community of almost 20 years.
Necessity breeds invention and in the now absence of a clay studio, I am embarking on opening a new space in a previously dormant building located in the Union Heights neighborhood of North Charleston, SC.
We plan to have artists working here by November 1st.
Shown together here with our public art collaboration XYLO-PLAY(a street sign xylophone on upper King Street), my good friend of many years and creative contractor, Tracey Pickard, has bought this North Charleston building and is working to bring it back to life. I will be charged with fine tuning it in comfort needs as well as utilitarian specifics to our craft.
We are working together to make Studio Union happen and have the mission to have 'affordable art space forever'. As I have had to relocate multiple times due to the real estate market chase, I am ready to settle into a spot for good. Art studios are endangered in the highly coveted Charleston area and we are glad to birth a new one despite the challenging market climate. This space will include clay as well as multi-media while hosting wheel-throwing classes and a variety of workshops.
Tracey and I are North Central residents of more than a decade and are enthusiastic to engage with new Neck neighbors living just north of our homes. We are excited to include other Charleston artists with our small ceramic community and design a hive for creativity and friendship.
Your generosity will go primarily towards these needs:
*Heat/AC for our 3100sq ft (12-15k)
*Installing glass block windows throughout the building
*Ventilation system
*A new large electric Skutt kiln (~3500k)
*Shipping container(~2000k) and upfitting to make it a kiln shed
*Fencing around property
*Gravel for parking area
*Electrical wiring to kilns
*Interior and exterior lighting
*Plumbing for commercial sink
*Rolling walls for 2-D artists to create flex space
This campaign is helped with dollars as well as communal sharing.
We are humbled and grateful by your love and support.
THANK YOU!
