Study Abroad Experience in Ireland

Donation protected
My name is Chloe Barron, I am currently a student in the College of Science and Engineering at University of Minnesota-TC. I am going for a bachelor's in Chemical Engineering and Chemistry. I have the opportunity to study abroad in Limerick, Ireland for the spring semester of 2020. Although I have been able to finance most of this excursion, by working three jobs over the summer and during the current school year, I still lack the necessary funds.  I want to live in another country for a semester to gain independence, cultural experience, learn technical courses in a different manner and mainly because I have never travelled out of the country before. I am also excited to hopefully take a course on Irish dance since I have danced competitively and recreationally before college for about 12 years. I continue to dance through a club I am the Vice President of on campus and would love to bring back some new ideas for the group.

My parents work to provide all of my necessities like food and health insurance; however, they do not have funds to provide support for education or an excursion like study abroad. I had to take out a significant private loan to make up the rest of my funding for school and I am hoping to not require another just to complete this experience. Luckily,  the program at the University of Limerick has classes I need for my degree so I can still graduate on time. I am a first generation college student so, I had to navigate a lot of my college and the setting up of this study abroad experience myself. I have worked very hard in school, taking college classes in high school and making the deans list 3 times (hopefully 4 after this semester). I hope in Ireland I can use this experience to broaden my education and it is a research institution so I hope to get some experience working with a professor over there.

Costs:

This study abroad experience is fairly similar price to the cost of tuition of my current university.

The program fee is an extra $2,000, I have already covered the cost of the plane ticket and housing myself. I am going to work more the rest of the semester and over winter break to hopefully cover other extra costs, but I would appreciate any support you can provide. Thank you, in advance for helping me make this experience a reality.
