STUDY ABROAD: SUNI MULLEN MEETS LONDON
Donation protected
Peace Everyone, This year, I have been accepted into a Contemporary Art Practices Program to earn my Master's degree at the Royal College of Art in London.
My program is a full academic year: September 2023 through September 2024.
Much of my studies will circulate agency, humor, and liberation ideas. I plan to write, paint, build, research, explore, and expound upon personal experiences to understand myself and the world around me better—- I aim to contribute what I discover and add to the canon of like-minds that have come before me– namely, bell hooks, Toni Morrison, and Arthur Jafa.
I decided to study abroad a couple of years ago. I brought this vision to life by critically engaging with those around me and remaining open to the opportunities that presented themselves to me. I desire a global perspective that has begun in America and has led me to London, with many more places to follow.
I find it to be imperative for me to strive and thrust myself into environments that challenge my way of thinking so that I may show myself the possibilities of what liberation can look like, not only for myself but to be a proof of concept for others— to ensure that I "walk the walk" of a vision coming into fruition.
God continues to bless my actions as I plant the seeds necessary to sprout in alignment with my purpose: to learn, to share, to be open, to heal, and to be a vessel for the word. Until now, I have relied on scholarships, loans, grants, and generous donations. Grad loans will cover the cost of tuition and some housing. I will benefit from having financial assistance for flights and initial touch-down expenses for accommodation, food, and travel.
Intrinsically, I have been motivated to take control of the direction of my life alongside a community of believers in me. This trek to the UK for the academic year is my carpe diem.
