Study Group in Italy!

Hello!
My name is Danielle and I am a very proud HBCU graduate. I am a member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. and a proud alum of Webster University. I received my Master’s Degree in 2016 in Applied Educational Psychology with an emphasis in Gifted Education. Attaining higher education is rare for individuals who come from my background. However, I made the conscious decision to NEVER lose sight of my passion of becoming a child psychologist. My entire life and academic career has been dedicated to Psychology, research and being an advocate for children in undeserved communities who are often overlooked or need more attention in the classroom.
In 2014, a tragedy shook my hometown of St Louis, Missouri and the crisis of Ferguson changed this city forever. Between the riots, peaceful protests, tanks rumbling down the street, candlelight vigils and many more life changing events; the community forgot to think about how this will affect the children of the community. We unintentionally lost sight of how the things we do and say around them will transform them forever. In response, a colleague and I decided to start a mentoring program at a community center in the neighborhood for middle school girls so they have a safe haven to go to and speak about the events without judgement.
In my efforts to humbly shed light on the struggles of underserved populations (such as family issues, learning disabilities or test biases), I have recently been selected to participate in a once in a lifetime opportunity to travel to Italy in 2018!! The trip to Italy is a study group that will be hosted by the internationally acclaimed municipal schools in Reggio Emilia. This trip will give me the opportunity to travel to many cities in Italy as well as attending the 3 day conference and research groups in Pistoia. Here, I will be delving deeper into the minds of psychologists which will allow me to learn and gain mentorship within my field.
The cost of the trip is expensive so I am graciously asking for $4,000 to cover airfare, the cost of the conference, housing and transportation. So with that being said, with your unselfish contribution, you will make my dreams of becoming an established Psychologist in reach. I look forward to updating you all on this journey as I follow my dreams of becoming a child psychologist.
Thank you so so SO much in advance:)
