Subaru isn't dead yet, but I need your help
Donation protected
I've been relocated to the far eastern suburbs of Pittsburgh after a fire at my old workplace. My current vehicle, an '03 Subaru Legacy sedan, has been diagnosed with a burnt valve, and the mechanic not only says it's not worth repairing, but it might not even survive the work if it was done.
That was the original story. But as the months since originally posting the GoFundMe have passed, I've been able to reflect and reevaluate the situation.
The rest of the car is basically sound. It complains when just starting out, sitting at the drive thru, or getting moving again after red lights. Once up to highway speed, there are few real problems.
There's life in the old girl, after all.
After contacting a Subaru garage in the Johnstown area, I was given an estimate of ~$2600 plus tax if worst case, the cylinder head needs replaced. If I need to do head gaskets as well, that goes to ~$3800 plus tax. There have been no signs of head gasket problems, and others have said not to preemptively replace them if I don't need to, so I'm skipping that if I can. The option of a refurbished/rebuilt engine swap is also under consideration. Waiting for an estimate on that. May table that if it ends up too expensive.
So the new plan to start the summer is to raise the money to repair and revive this Subaru. With your help, I can do it.
