Sudan - Howard Uni Mission Trip
Donation protected
In collaboration with University of Khartoum, University of Kordofan, Dr. Sayed Ibrahim -- CEO and Founder of Sprinjene, All natural toothpaste --, and Dental Helping Hands, a group of dental students from Howard University College of Dentistry and I are going to Khartoum, Sudan's capital this March for 10 days in a dental outreach mission. Sudan is located in Northeast Africa, and it is the third largest country in Africa.
Our services will be directed to providing dental care for under-served communities, facilitate educational lectures at local dental institutions to permit networking and knowledge exchange.
Sudan is also suffering from an endemic of oral cancer due to toombak dipping-a form of smokeless tobacco- that is highly prevalent in Sudan. We will be working with the dental professionals to educate and lower the prevalence of oral cancer. If you would like to read more about the attribution of oral cancer in the Sudan, you may find more information at the following link: http://journals.sagepub.com/doi/full/10.1177/2057178X16685729
A group of students and faculty from Howard University College of Dentistry went to Khartoum, Sudan in the summer of 2018. During the stay, we were able to screen and treat about 2000 patients. We gave a lecture on "Oral Cancer Review: Adjunctive Screening Tools" at El Razi University and Khartoum General Dental Hospital.
Presently, we are requesting dental supplies and monetary donations. Your donations will go towards diagnostic tools to screen for oral cancer, purchase additional supplies, as well as its transport to the clinical site in Sudan. We were requested by the Ministry of Health to provide a donation of VELscope, ViziLite, and portable X-ray tools.
Together we are helping bring health and hope to communities in need - one mouth at a time. We thank you for your continued support throughout this journey.
Sincerely,
HUCD Sudan's Mission Committee
