I can feel the English department over my shoulder as I write this.
If you have been lucky enough to meet Sue in the busy high school halls, classroom or in front of her camera lens, you know you've met a beautiful soul. Sue has always been a strong advocate for our students with diverse needs but is there for everyone, staff and students alike. Sue is a great friend, colleague, and a fantastic wife and mother to Mark and Keeley. A few short days ago, Sue shared her story that she has cancer; stunned, we here at Sutherland quietly sat back and asked each other how can we help.
As you may or may not know Sue has ulcerative colitis so would greatly benefit from naturopathic treatments in conjunction with western medicine to treat the cancer. Chemo will obviously be tough on the digestive system and will very likely cause her colitis to flare up, so it is our hope with the help of naturopathic treatment this will help ease the side effects and replenish vital nutrients and vitamins that are stripped from the body during chemo. These treatments are not covered under our medical and can be quite costly. So to ease the financial stress of taking a leave from work and enabling Sue to take care of herself so she can kick cancers @$$, we’ve started this GoFundMe page.
Here's the little blurb Sue sent us:
"I have HER2 Positive Invasive Ductal Carcinoma. Don't ask me what that means; I am still trying to figure that out for myself. From what I know, it is fast growing, responds very well to drugs, and they treat it aggressively. So likely surgery, chemotherapy and radiation.
This cancer was caught at a routine mammogram, so ladies, if you are putting off your mammogram or are overdue for one, please book.
I kind of suspected the biopsy would come back as cancerous. The radiologist at my ultrasound told me she suspected cancer. Although I thought I was prepared for the diagnosis, it turns out I wasn't.
I thought I can fight cancer and live my life like I always do, but I came to the realisation today that that isn't possible.
So today, I start my new normal. I will be making myself and my health a priority, something that is surprisingly hard for me.
I need to power up mentally, emotionally and physically for the battle ahead. I am asking you all to pray for me, or send me love and light, fairy dust, positive vibes and energy.
xxoo"
