Help Fund Sufjan's Top Surgery and Recovery

My name is Sufjan and I'm a Black transmasculine writer and artist based in London. I'm reaching out for your support as I take a big step towards aligning my body with my inner self. I have been working hard to save for top surgery, a procedure that will help me feel more comfortable in my skin.

While I had hoped to go through the NHS for this surgery, the wait times are incredibly long. I cannot face the uncertainty and impacts on my mental health due to delays of another 5 to 7 years, which is why I’ve decided to pursue private surgery. The difficulty in accessing this care has deeply affected me, making day-to-day life feel heavier and more challenging.

As a writer, I imagine otherwise through the worlds and characters I create on the page. But doing that for myself has been so much harder. Navigating the hellscape that is accessing trans healthcare in the UK made it feel impossible. And yet, despite it all, I can’t ignore the call to move forward and finally bring this vision of myself to life.

The total surgery and associated expenses cost is roughly £13,000. This includes the procedure and post-operative care, travel to and from the clinic, and recovery costs (such as time off work and necessary medical supplies). So far, I’ve managed to save £3,000, but the prohibitive cost of living in London means I can’t fund this surgery alone, so I’m asking for your help.
