Sugar Emergency Surgery Expenses

Nov. 7 update. Sugar is back in the OR for a second attempt to suture the eight inch opening. Sugar’s spirits are high but she has been sleeping a lot more which has to be good for her healing process. She has been back to her happy tail wagging self in purposely controlled visits from friends and family. $480 for this procedure. I’m playing musical credit cards.
Oct. 31 update. Had to rush her to a second vet clinic because her staples ripped out. First vet didn’t have a “surgical pack” and couldn’t take her in. New vet put her under and removed all the staples and “cold lasered” the skin tissue to coax into regrowing. $680 for this procedure. Given trazadone to calm her nerves. She’s gained five pounds.
Oct. 30 update. Sheriff’s deputy came and took my statement and took pictures. All they can do is give the owner a citation. I’m angry and frustrated.
On Monday October 24, Sugar was attacked in her own front yard by a loose “blue pit bull”. I was kicking the pit bull. I was hitting him as hard as I could with a branch. Sugar was finally able to get loose and the blue pit’s owners disappeared with the vicious animal. An hour after initial examination with no wounds or blood, I saw a blood trail in the house and fresh blood on her bed and in my bed. Fortunately Main Street Animal Hospital in Bartow took her and got her wounds cleaned, with staples and a Penrose wound drain. The skin of her neck separated from the tissue underneath and the drain keep’s bacteria from building up. The bill was $779 and I’m asking for help with it.
- Sugar is a 4-year old mix breed that I rescued from the county shelter the day after Christmas 2019, just before the lockdown. The folks at the shelter named her appropriately because she is the sweetest dog with the kindest temperament I’ve ever known. She frequents two bars in town where she is universally recognized as a good girl and has 100s of acquaintances.
