Youth Suicide Crisis in Tataskweyak Cree Nation
Dear Relatives of Turtle Island,
On August 11th I will be starting my journey from Vancouver to Halifax to fundraise and raise awareness for Tataskweyak Cree Nation.
Tataskweyak is currently in a State of Emergency. Sadly, there has been 13 suicides in their community over the past year, with 4 of them in the last two months.
With permission from the Chief, and Family members, I am sharing the names of the youth who have passed, to honour and remember them.
The 13 Relatives we have lost to this darkness and have passed on to the spirit world are
Jayden Osborne
Terrence Beardy
Gary Beardy
Raymond Beardy
Draycen Kematch
Chavon Flett
Sandy Mayham
Hunter Morin
Michelle Cook
Janine Chornoby
Jonathan Saunder jr
Chaiton Spence
Corwin Saunders

>> Once the funds have been raised, the youth of Tataskweyak will be solely be the ones in charge of allocating the money into resources they believe to be helpful, and necessary.
My goal is to host a Tataskweyak Youth Town Hall meeting to listen to their voices, and ideas which will hopefully lead to creating a Community Youth Council. Here, the Youth will be given the opportunities to be heard and have a say on decisions regarding their home community.
I would love to see youth town hall meeting in every community, because their voices matter and it’s important to empower, and hear them.
Please consider sharing or donating. Let’s empower them together.
