Sultana Disaster Museum Capital Campaign
Donation protected
The story of the Sultana, deemed "the greatest maritime disaster in American history," is likely a story you've never been told. Our project is to tell the forgotten story of the bravery and sacrifice of the Union soldiers and passengers aboard the steamboat Sultana and the chain of corruption that led to the boat's demise, as it exploded, burned and sank on April 27, 1865, near Marion, Arkansas.
Our new state-of-the-art museum will feature a professionally designed exhibit with interactive displays, an orientation theater, education classrooms, temporary exhibits, a research library, and community spaces throughout. The total cost of the project is $10 million. We have currently raised just shy of $8.3 million. FedEx has issued us a challenge that if we can reach $9 million by May 31, they will donate the final million to complete the campaign. We need your help to get there!
If you would like to help us tell this story and commemorate the soldiers who fought to preserve our nation only to perish in a needless tragedy, please consider donating today!
