Summit in Solidarity Campaign for Outdoor Afro
Tax deductible
Summits in Solidarity is raising money to benefit Outdoor Afro, the nation's leading network that celebrates and inspires Black connections and leadership in nature. Any donation will help make an impact. Outdoor Afro has a presence in the White Mountains and in 30 states around the country, and is changing the face of conservation. Most recently, they helped The Great American Outdoors Act, which makes funding for the Land and Water Conservation Fund (LWCF) permanent and supports deferred maintenance projects on federal public lands.
"The outdoors belongs to everybody. The trees don't care what color you are...we want to remove barriers to entry for folks to experience the outdoors," Outdoor Afro NYC leader Katina Grays told the Today Show, in this video depicting Katina leading Outdoor Afro members on a hike and experiencing the outdoors with her daughter, Seraphina. "Through Outdoor Afro what we're trying to do is build a community, so we can talk about that raw past [of slavery and segregation in the US] and why it matters that we're outside now, and why it matters that we reclaim these spaces that belong to all of us...We are creating space for the next generation of black people to really have this experience. The outdoors belongs to everybody...across folks who are differently abled, across folks who are different sizes, come from different socioeconomic backgrounds."
