Superior Hill Park Spruce-Ups and Placemaking
Tax deductible
Home to the Burning River Community Garden, a scenic overlook, grassy hillside, and significant Cleveland history, Superior Hill Park has been a place enhancement focus of the Historic Warehouse District Development Corporation (HWDDC). Much of the Park had previously been overlooked and overgrown, but a series of neighborhood volunteer efforts have transformed this space into a beautiful and welcoming community asset.
Over 100 volunteer hours have been placed into a recent $13,600 grassroots initiative at placemaking and enhancing Superior Hill Park. These include large-scale pruning, cleaning, landscaping, planting, painting, and more.
We want this space to celebrate its history, seeing as this used to be the eastern end of the Superior Viaduct - the 1878 bridge that once connected the east and west sides of the Cuyahoga River. While horse-drawn carriages, streetcars, automobiles, and pedestrians no longer crossed the river on the Viaduct when the Detroit-Superior Bridge replaced it, this historic remnant can now serve as a nod to the past while providing a place for today's Clevelanders to enjoy as Superior Hill Park.
Through new public art and murals, outdoor furniture, landscaping, painting, and more, HWDDC is raising funds to help cover the remaining costs of these significant improvements, which come to a total of $13,600. We also want to ensure long-term maintenance and find new ways to continue to enhance, program, and spruce-up the Park. Your contribution will go directly towards HWDDC and our commitment to building a dynamic public space that celebrates the neighborhood's history and creates a new amenity.
