Dear Community,
As we move forward in these uncertain times for our creative industries, we would like to ask for financial support from our community to help us pay for gear, classes and software that is essential to our music practices. Having adequate equipment and resources are needed in order for us to continue to push ourselves creatively and as members of a greater artistic community. Please support and share our Go Fund Me above, where we will be raising funds for our continued support. If PayPal is a more accessible option, you can support the link here: or [email redacted].
This year has provided a lot of time for reflection on our future as artists and community organizers. The last 5 years of CLUB CHAI have been transformative for us as individuals and our understanding of the potentials of art, music, curation and event organizing. As we approach our 5 year anniversary, we have decided that CLUB CHAI will be ending as a project in January 2021. This is not a reaction to COVID or this year, it’s just us staying true to ourselves, our intentions and commitment to evolution and growth. We want to be transparent and honest with our community about where we are at. We move forward with so much love and gratitude, it’s difficult to describe how much CLUB CHAI has impacted us. The project has given us the opportunity to collaborate with so many artists and create an archive of music we are extremely proud of. It’s important for us to acknowledge the amount of labor it takes to work on our individual art practices while also facilitating other artist’s projects, event organization, and running a label. In order for us to grow as artists we must honor our work with the same intentionality and time. We are excited about the potential of this new chapter.
The CLUB CHAI ethos will continue through our individual practices and collaborations. We remain committed to work that challenges the Western perception of international music and genres. 8ULENTINA and Lara Sarkissian will continue to collaborate, just outside of the framework of CLUB CHAI.
Our final contributions as a platform will be a compilation of tracks, CLUB CHAI Vol. 2 and a zine archiving our flyers, event photos and writing about the project. If you would like to submit any writing, photos or a story about CLUB CHAI to the zine, email us [email redacted] with the subject line “zine contribution”.
Thank you again to every single person who has supported CLUB CHAI in any capacity and to all of our collaborators, in the Bay Area and internationally. Without our unique scene and all the artists that make it up we truly wouldn’t be where we are right now. We love you.
Keep an eye out for the CLUB CHAI Vol. 2 compilation and CLUB CHAI Archive Zine coming in January.
Love,
Esra and Lara
