EMERGENCY FUNDS FOR UNDEREMPLOYED TRANS ARTIST

Peace, my name’s Nance (he/they), and I used this platform to recently crowdfund support for my gender-affirming top surgery and recovery in October 2022.

The onboarding process for new clients is taking more time than I anticipated. I am now crowdsourcing additional funds to relieve immediate financial stress while I receive deposits for projects & gigs this spring.

Since recovering from surgery, I have applied to a variety of artist grants, fellowships and residencies with the hopes of decreasing my dependency on freelance work to support my well-being. After being denied from all programs I applied to, I spent my time in recovery developing and designing new client services to meet the needs of individuals, small-to-medium and large formations local to the Twin Cities and beyond. As a freelancer, the winter months here are very difficult as I wait for clients to confirm commitments and send partial payments before starting contract work. While I have been able to pay off all of my medical bills and debt related to my surgery over the past months (yay!), I have depleted my savings and am currently struggling to meet my immediate needs & expenses.

I am fundraising $3,500.00 to cover the cost of rent, bills and other expenses I do not have the means to cover on my own at the moment. The additional funds are for the following:

• Internet - $250

• Electricity - $150

• Silicon Scar Tape - $100

• Squarespace website subscription - $30

• Dropbox subscription -$10

• Phone - $100

• Therapy - $250

• Health Insurance - $150

• Supplies that I cannot purchase with my EBT card - $50

• Gas - $50

• Laundry - $20
