We need your help!
Our goal is to raise at least 6000 in 20 days to support these young girls.
In 1977, Idaw River Girls Secondary School (IRGSS) was opened in the capital city of Enugu in Enugu State, Nigeria. Then, it was a beautiful school with plentiful resources and served as a catalyst for bright futures. The campus of IRGSS included 3 two-story buildings, an event hall, adequate restrooms, library, and labs for chemistry, physics and home economics. Everything was functional and allowed IRGSS to serve as a pillar of learning and development in the community. In 1982, my mother graduated from Idaw River Girls Secondary School as a part of its inaugural class.
Recently, the students are forced to use the restroom outside. The roofs have varying levels of severe leaking and most of the buildings are vulnerable to the outdoor elements. The repairs are extensive and yet the students come here to learn.
After learning about lack of attention on the government’s part, gross mismanagement of resources and a change in the school’s leadership, my mother alongside her former classmates formed an alumni association. Their main goal is to revitalize Idaw River Girls Secondary School by rebuilding the buildings including new toilet system, new labs and library, bringing the school to its former glory and supporting the young girls following in their footsteps by providing more aid and resources for their development.
Please donate to help us reach our goal of $6000 to make a life altering impact. We are asking our community to step in to support the educational development of young Black women. A little can go a long way! With your help, we can replenish Idaw River Girls Secondary School as a pillar of Enugu’s community.
