Support a Dedicated Nurse's Journey to Safety

Hello, My name is Ahmed Sawan, I am single 29 years old, and I live with my beautiful family consisting of (my father, mother, two brothers, and two sisters). I hold a Bachelor’s degree in Nursing from the Islamic University in 2017 and have worked at Al-Shifa Hospital, Orthopedic Department, since then.

I'm doing a Master's degree at Al-Azhar University since 2023.

Since the start of the Israeli war on the Gaza Strip on 10/07/2023, I committed to my shift at Al-Shifa Hospital and spent the most difficult days of the Israeli war on the Gaza Strip serving the sick people and wounded. I did not devote a moment to working with my countrymen in light of this aggression.

On 10/10/2023, while I was working in the hospital, the house close to our house was targeted by an air strike from an F16 plane, where my family was located, and thank God we all miraculously survived.

On 10/13/2020, we were informed of our displacement towards the southern Gaza Strip, and we prepared simple items of clothing and basic needs as if we were displaced for a week and then we would return to our homes we have not returned since that time.

We were displaced to the city of Rafah, south of the Gaza Strip, inside a UNRWA school, where the suffering began

It isn't easy to obtain water to drink in addition to the water needed for other uses. The line to get bread lasted at least 8 hours and we probably didn't get bread. Waiting in line to enter the bathroom to relieve ourselves, leads to problems with our digestive system. Sleeping in places that are not suitable for living and the insects and flies that these places contain and are not protected from the cold of winter or the heat of summer, in addition to the unpleasant odors spreading due to the destruction of infrastructure due to the Israeli aggression.

On the other hand, due to the closure of commercial crossings, we suffer from exorbitant high prices in the markets for the most important food supplies

For example

A kilo of potatoes is equivalent to $7

A kilo of tomatoes is equivalent to $4

One kilo of chicken is equivalent to $20

A kilo of sugar reached $16

A carton of eggs is equivalent to $28

During this aggression and due to the continuous aerial bombardment throughout the Strip, our house where I was born was severely damaged and is not fit for living.

Al-Shifa Hospital, where I work, which is the largest integrated medical complex in Palestine was destroyed.

The Israeli occupation destroyed my apartment, which exhausted me from a long effort of fatigue and collecting money to obtain my housing to achieve my most basic rights as a young man in his prime.

And my dream was not fulfilled.

Now, after 225 days of continued aggression, we have witnessed what neither the heart nor the eye can bear, We were exposed to danger in several places where there is no safe place to live, especially since the occupation focuses on taking revenge on members of the medical and health professions in particular as if they were the face of crime.

I ask you to help me leave the Gaza Strip with my family and to preserve our lives, in the hope that we can start our lives again.
