Support a Future Firefighter's EMT Journey

For those that know me and those that may not, I have wanted to be a firefighter since I was a kid. The first step is to get my emergency medical technician (EMT) license. For various reasons over the years, I have been held back from accomplishing this sooner. Most recently, I had to stop my EMT classes when I was in Upstate New York with my ex-wife. My dad had just passed, COVID locked everything down, and my ex-wife had kicked me out. All of which led me to a deep depression that led me to attempt to take my own life, which landed me in the hospital. Not only that, but I had just moved to Upstate with my ex, which took me away from my entire support system. Needless to say, that caused me to have to walk a pretty long road to recovery, but I can say that I put in the work and have come out on the other side where I can, and want to help people.

I have gotten accepted to school but with the current state of the administration I don't know when, or if I will ever get financial aid. Not to mention, I am working harder now than ever to secure my license as I don't know how long my job will be safe for. Working in a law enforcement adjacent field as an out queer and trans man is not the most welcoming environment. Not to mention, we’ve already had our state funding decreased and now with the uncertainty of federal funding, there has already been talk of furloughs, layoffs, and staffing decreases.

All of that to say, if you can help me at all to attain the financial means necessary to get my schooling finished, I would be forever grateful. I don’t know what else to say other than this has been a goal of mine for years and it just feels like there has always been something in the way. Now, the only thing holding me back is finances.
