Humanitarian Effort to Rescue a Family
This request is on behalf of a dear friend— a brilliant researcher and colleague, a husband, and father of two children under the age of 5. Once the pandemic set in, he was forced to leave the Triangle Area of North Carolina (where he was pursuing his advanced degree) to return to his native country. While abroad, he continued to take classes virtually until his country became so unstable that the infrastructure severed his internet access. The last few months have grown increasingly turbulent. His entire family lives in fear daily with threats of violence. The only hope for their safety and the posterity of their children is that they all, as a family, come to the US where he can finish his degree. We cannot reveal many details about his identity or specifics surrounding this request as his return is part of a group effort orchestrated by his friends here in the US, and an effort not supported by his homeland. We are writing to you as a group that cares deeply about bringing this family to safety, and as such we will be contributing meaningfully to this fund ourselves. Additionally, we are more than willing to provide references attesting to our intentions and credibility in authoring this request, so please do not hesitate to reach out to ask any questions you might have. The funds you contribute to this cause will support their travel, housing, food, and necessities for starting a life entirely anew in this country. He has a job already in place as part of his degree program, but this compensation is limited, not intended to support a family of four. The funds collected will serve as a blessing to carry him and his family through this hopeful transitional time. The peace, safety, and opportunity we often take for granted here in the US are but a dream for some. We hope you can help us make the dream a reality for this family determined to create a better life for themselves and their children. To assure that our friend arrives in time for the start of his final semester of coursework; and that he, his wife, and children not be subjected to any more danger, we are hoping to collect these funds by the first week in August. We, on behalf of our dear friend, are grateful for any contributions you can offer for this cause.
