Support a Local Family Fighting for Stability

Hi, we’re Krystal and John—founders of Carnival Party Land in Oak Ridge, TN. We’re a small family with big hearts and a dream that’s quickly slipping through our fingers.

Shortly after we got married, John began having seizures. He now has drug-resistant epilepsy. After trying and failing three different medications, he’s currently taking three anti-seizure meds daily, plus rescue medications to help prevent seizure clusters. If this combination doesn’t work, the next step is brain surgery. He has a specialist appointment at Vanderbilt in Nashville on May 14 to evaluate that possibility.

We’ve done everything we can to stay afloat while I care for him full-time—but everything has hit at once:

In March, our electricity was shut off so we could make the mortgage payment for April

We must make May and June payments of $1,143.76 each to avoid foreclosure

Our utility bill is now over $1,000, with late fees and a deposit increase

John’s mom is in the hospital and expecting daily visits

Our gutters are falling off and made a hole in our ceiling.

We’re also behind on taxes, facing fines and filing fees

We just learned ETHRA is out of assistance funds

We never wanted to ask for help—we’ve been trying to work through it by growing Carnival Party Land, which brings joy to families at events. We’ve added gorgeous tents and unique games. The business is going well when booked, but we need help just to catch up and survive this moment.
