Support a Loving Wife & Mom in Her Battle with Brain Cancer
Donation protected
If you’ve met Katherine, chances are you’ve received a warm hug and shared a laugh. Katherine is a loving and kind-hearted soul whose infectious smile lights up a room. She makes friends with everyone she meets and is always there to lend a helping hand, even to strangers.
She’s a devoted wife to Darrin, loving mom to Kendra and Leslie, and recently became a proud grandma for the first time this past September to her granddaughter Quinn. Katherine works as an educational assistant where her passion is to help students succeed in their learning. She’s passionate about volunteering and music and has spent the last 32+ summers at the Winnipeg Folk Festival, where she volunteered and was often seen dancing in the crowd.
Katherine is always giving herself to others with love and care, and now it’s her turn to receive that love and care.
In November, Katherine was diagnosed with a recurrence of brain cancer. This time an aggressive form called Glioblastoma. She had already fought and beat brain cancer in 2009 when she was diagnosed with a Grade 3 Astrocytoma. Now she is courageously facing the fight again.
Due to her diagnosis, Katherine is now unable to speak and she struggles with right sided weakness and paralysis, along with many other challenges related to her condition. Katherine now requires daily care from Darrin and Leslie, mobility aids for inside and outside of the house (including a wheelchair ramp), alternative therapies and natural supplements, medical supplies and communication tools, massage therapy and physiotherapy (for pain management and relief) just to name a few.
Her husband Darrin and daughter Leslie are providing full-time care, leaving them unable to work and under financial strain.
Katherine has given so much of herself to others—her family, her students, her friends, and even total strangers. Now, she and her family need our help.
Your donations will help provide the essential care and comfort she needs. Every contribution, no matter the amount, makes a meaningful difference, even $15 would help to pay for one of the many hospital parking tickets over the past few months.
If you’re unable to give at this time, a simple share of Katherine’s story is deeply appreciated.
Thank you for supporting Katherine and her family during this very difficult time.
