Kia ora,
My name is Lil (Elizabeth) and I am on the home stretch of my Fine Arts PhD.
I graduated with a BA degree in Criminology as well as a BA First Class Honours degree in Gender and Women’s Studies, at Victoria University of Wellington, before embarking on the Post Graduate Diploma in Maori Visual Arts at Massey University. After completing the programme with Distinction, under the supervision of renown Maori artist, Professor Robert Jahnke, my pursuits in the Fine Arts, coupled with a strong research background in Maori and Indigenous Studies, Feminism, Gender, Critical Theory and Social Consciousness, has resulted in PhD scholarship that serves as a counter-narrative designed to highlight the intersecting relationships between Maori women representations, science, art and colonisation. A contribution to the promotion of representations of Pacific women as potential sources of empowerment, that enrich our lives and enhance well being.
However, a global crisis, disrupting life as we've known it, and for my whanau, personal losses, has meant a year of uncertainty and unforeseen challenges. This has lead to a reduction in exhibition funds which ultimately will prevent the exhibition from occurring (and consequently the completion of my Doctorate).
If you support this kaupapa, I ask that you please consider making a contribution to my exhibition funds. This will help me cover the costs of an interactive hologram; a lot of linen; lighting effects; road signage and a koha to the Waiheke Museum, where the exhibition will take place in December (just over 2 months away!!).
Nga mihi nui ki a koutou katoa!
