Support a pregnant woman in Gaza get to safety

Hello everyone my name is Tasnim Mahdy, I'm an artist based in London and I'm raising funds on behalf of my friend's family who are currently in Gaza. One of the family members, Samar, is currently going through a high-risk pregnancy in the the North of Gaza City.

I'm coordinating this campaign alongside her sister, Soad, who is based in Turkey and will receive the funds and take them directly to Cairo to pay the coordination fee for Ya Hala office.

Samar, a 29-year-old teacher, mother, and friend from Gaza, is in urgent need of your support to relocate from Gaza to give birth next month. She is a mother of three beautiful children, Qusai (7 years old) Maha (4 years old) and Somaiya (2 years old).

She received a master’s degree in mathematics, taught math for five years and secured the top place in the UNRWA recruitment exams before the war October 2023.

Throughout the past five months or so, we have tried to convince her to leave to receive adequate medical support, but she insisted that things will get better, and she’d be back to her home soon.

After evacuating her area in November, Samar, her husband, and their children went to check on their home during the temporary ceasefire in December, to find out that the house was completely burnt with everything in it.

Despite all that, the family clung on the small hope that things might get better; a hope that’s been crushed as more details of the depth of destruction are revealed. They are still based in the North of Gaza City with no access to clean water or food, which has further impacted them.

More specifically, Samar’s health has deteriorated tremendously in the past month as she developed DVT (Deep Vein Thrombosis), has no access to RhoGAM shots, and is now suffering from anaemia whilst heavily pregnant. She has not been able to probably check on her baby’s health since the war started.

We are Samar’s friends and family both in Gaza and outside, and we need your urgent help to get her to a safe place in Egypt where she and her baby can receive medical support, and her family can be safe with her.

We cannot sit and witness another pregnant Palestinian woman from Gaza go through the impossible under dehumanising conditions.

Your help will mean the world to Samar and the little life she is carrying inside of her.

Cost breakdown:

1. Coordination fees ($17,500)

a. $5000 x 2 for Samar and her husband

b. $2500 x 3 for Qusai, Maha and Somaiya

2. Relocation fees $2000

a. This is to cover their relocation from North of Gaza City of South of Gaza City and then from Rafah to Egypt

b. Clothes and essentials for Samar and the children

3. Medical and birth fees $3000

a. Medical support is not covered for non-citizens in Egypt. This means Samar’s birth will have to be covered privately.

We are so hopeful that we will be able to get to the goal within two weeks so that Samar can leave before her birth.
