Support a Sarasota Family's Flood Recovery
Donation protected
We live in Florida, we have flood insurance. Yet, in all these years we've never seen flooding in Sarasota like we saw during Tropical Storm Debby.
As I write this, myself, my partner and children are in the second floor bedroom, waiting for the multiple feet of floodwater to recede so we can leave. Because our house is absolutely flooded.
It might not be a total loss, we have flood insurance, but there's a foot (yes, 12 inches of standing water) in every room of the house, destroying everything we've built together since blending our families and buying this house.
Appliances, cabinets, books, clothes (though, those can be washed), skateboards, computers, were all on the floor when the floodwaters rose unexpectedly at 4:30am from the creek.
And yeah, homeowners insurance might cover some, flood insurance leaves the house in TBD mode (a foot of water will do a number on the interior walls). It's going to be a tough road ahead to rebuild with kids in tow (15, 14, 8 - not counting the adult kids who have already moved out).
So any donations will be greatly appreciated and help us get back on our feet as quickly as possible. Plus, we may have lost a car too. Definitely lost a recycle bin, that floated away by breakfast.
We are safe, everyone is alive, and yeah, it's only 'stuff' but it's art, my baseball cards, our couches, fridges, and so on. All destroyed by Debby.
So hit that button, share, do what you want, but know that we will rebuild cause that's how we roll.
