Help Patterson Rebuild her Woodshop after Hurricane Helene
Donation protected
On September 27th Hurricane Helene destroyed the beautiful town of Marshall, NC in a historic storm surge of 27ft. Marshall is a small rural town just north of Asheville that sits right along the French Broad River. Every business and storefront in the town was destroyed in the flood. Every day since, Patterson and her community in Marshall have been working together to clear the mud and debris from the town and support other community members in need.
Patterson is an incredibly skilled craftsperson, herbalist, and teacher. She creates furniture and objects for healing spaces, makes herbal medicines, and teaches community members how to create their own beloved wooden wares. Patterson's workshops are often dedicated spaces for queer and trans folks.
Patterson lost her woodworking studio, including all of her equipment, materials, and inventory due to Hurricane Helene. Artists in WNC make the majority of their income through local holiday craft markets in the fall and winter, so Patterson and countless other artists have lost their ability to make an income for this year. Rebuilding from this loss will take significant community care and financial support.
All funds will go directly toward rebuilding Patterson's workshop including replacing machinery and lost materials, as well as Patterson's financial recovery after the storm. Any extra funds will be passed along to support the wider community.
If you are interested in supporting the wider community in this region, please consider donating to ROAR WNC (Marshall) and BeLoved Asheville (Asheville). These are both longstanding and trusted nonprofits in the community providing mutual aid on the ground.
Thank you so much for your generous support and care during this devastating time.
