Support a Sudanese refugee family to settle in Egypt

We are raising funds to support our dear friend whose family had to run away from their home in Khartoum after surviving the raging war. They are a family of six people, including two elders and two children, and they have managed to make it to Egypt after much difficulty. However, they have used up all their available funds to escape to safety and are now in need of financial assistance to survive the next few months until they receive documentation that allows some of them to work.

The elders in the family are in need of urgent medical attention. One elder has dementia, diabetes and other diseases, and the other also has health complications that need medical care. The kids also need to be able to go to school soon. So we are aiming to raise $14,500 USD to help cover their rent, medical expenses, school fees, communication (data and internet), transportation and support to get basic furniture and clothing since they left everything behind.

Here’s the breakdown for 5 months of expenses (all amounts are in USD):

$4,000 for 5 months, at $800 per month

$2,000 for food and drinks

$5,000 for medical expenses (doctor appointments, tests and scans, medications)

$600 for transportation (they will need to use taxis more as the elders have mobility issues).

$2,500 for furniture and clothing for 6 people

$700 for school fees and supplies

$300 for recurring bills like Internet, data, electricity bill and water bill

As you may know, since the 15th of April 2023, a deadly conflict has been going on in Khartoum, the capital of Sudan, as well as in other areas of the country. According to UNHCR, there have been over 10 million people who have been forced to leave their homes in Sudan since the onset of the war. Many Sudanese people fled to neighbouring countries like Egypt, Chad, South Sudan, Ethiopia and other countries. The people of Sudan, who have been leading peaceful marches for democracy over the course of the past few years, are now the ones who are paying the severe price for this fight over power that is being waged between these two generals.
