STEVEN SPEARS UPDATE: As of today (2/2/22) we have raised close to $13K but we need over $20k ($14k for the medical center and about $6k for the transportation) to get Steve to a special rehab center in Slovakia that specializes in Brain Trauma (and not available in Germany). We encourage you to spread the word via your social media, friends, family, emails, Whatsapp,...to help us raise as much as possible. We will keep everyone updated as things move along.
God Bless,
Eric (Cousin) & Tara Bott and Janis Fowler (Mom)
With the permission of his immediate family we (my wife and I) are starting a campaign to raise much needed money to help for long-term care for Steve and his loving wife (Susanne) during this tough time. Steve, as a decorated Army Vet of 30+ years with multiple tours in overseas (including Iraq,...) but unfortunately suffered a massive heart attack in early August of 2021 and has incurred permanent brain damage as a direct result of lack of oxygen to his brain (Hypoxia) during the time it took to get him to the hospital. The German healthcare system (and V.A.), where he has lived for over 40 years, has served him well but is not really setup to handle long-term care in the setting that Steve needs to try and recover whatever mental and physical functions he can.
Although he is aware of his surroundings at his home in Langenselbold, Germany, he is unable to move his body or communicate other than an occasional attempt to say an occasional "yes or no" or a smile and his nutrition is by feeding tube. Therefore, he requires around the clock care that he mainly receives from his wife and two sons (and friends) assisting as much as they can. He will requires years of therapy and will need a multitude of support items including; nurses, brain specialists, rehab, PT, specialty equipment, living expenses,… to assist the family in his severe brain impairment rehab if there is any hope in recovering a quality of life we all know Steve deserves and would want. So with this request I am asking on behalf of myself, his family and most of all Steve, to please give whatever you can to help Steve in his time of need! Every dollar, small or large will help no matter the amount!

As a person that has known (and grown up with) Steve for 50+ years (as his first cousin) I can say without a doubt that he is the first person to give his shirt off his back to someone in a time of need when called upon so l hope everyone can dig deep into their heart to assist Steve in the fight for his life and love of his country and family.
