We are a blended family and things were a challenge before I got hurt. I am Abby, mom to 4, step mom to 1, devoted wife to Lucas. On June 2, I hopped off the tailgate of our truck and my tibia and fibula both were shattered, open fractures, through the skin. I also hit my head too hard. Skull fracture and some brain bleeding.

The leg required emergency surgery and now I have a brand new steel rod in my body, complete with what looks like 8 or 10 dry wall screws.

I have at least 4 more weeks before I can bear weight or drive. Making Luke's work, all self-employment, practically an impossibility.

Because he has to care for me, and for Lucy, and for my kids.

He literally has to carry me into our home like a baby.

The rental we are in has sold, we have to be out on August 1. As it is, the air conditioner at this place, that we have worked our butts off to clean up. It's too hot, too much work to maintain, not accessible or close enough for us to be here without car accessibility.

We've been staying in hotels. And that's the safest option I can see.

I'm working on getting us into at least a short term lease at an apartment on a first floor, but we need money.

And we are a safe investment. The return will be clear, but we are at a very hard moment. And we are sweaty..and I can't walk or stand at the sink or even turn the oven on.

And Luke can't leave me and these kids alone. But even if he did, we would most likely still be short.
