Support Abby and Sarah's Transplant Journey

Donation protected
Please consider helping these sisters. Abby Smith was born with a rare liver disease called biliary atresia. She received a Kasai procedure at 8 weeks old. The Kasai procedure can slow liver damage, delay complications, and reduce the need for a liver transplant. After 25 years of beating the odds, her liver can not keep up. Abby was placed on a transplant list in February of 2024. Being on the list has been an emotional roller coaster, starting with appointments with surgeons, social workers, pharmacists, dieticians, insurance, and testing to make sure she is healthy enough to endure the transplant

All this while praying for the unknown family that would lose a loved one who would give this life-saving gift. Scans found complications with the veins and artery going to the liver. This makes the surgery more complex. Abby is dual listed at Froedtert and UW Madison hospitals. UW Madison has a living donor program for liver transplants. After learning about living donations, Abby's sister Sarah got tested and is a match. Sarah will be lovingly giving this gift. Both girls will be having surgery on February 5th. With months of recovery to follow. I pray you will all be inspired by this love and help these young women. The funds will help with medical bills, medications, time off work, travel expenses (surgery is out of town), and any unforeseen costs that could arise.
