Support Abby Magee through her ongoing medical struggles

Our beloved waitress, musician, artist, and dear friend Abby Magee has had one hell of a year and needs her community’s support.

Abby was diagnosed with a rare genetic disorder called syringomyelia in 2018. This means she has a cyst growing in her spinal cord that if not addressed could ultimately lead to paralysis.

She was luckily diagnosed (many people with this disorder do not get diagnosed & treated until it’s too late and permanent damage is done) and had her brain surgery in January of this year. Abby’s surgery was incredibly painful and complicated by rejection of the staples used to close the surgical wounds and subsequent infections.

The recovery process has been very long and Abby is still unable to work because her body is weak and she is plagued by persistent migraines.

Many of the people involved in the live music community of Austin who know Abby as their bubbly, hardworking, sweet waitress & badass drummer at the Saxon Pub are aware of her journey and what I’ve shared so far.

Unfortunately, this past week Abby was admitted back into the hospital with extreme pain in her abdomen. She underwent surgery immediately to remove a dozen cysts on her ovaries that she never knew she had. They also had to remove one of her fallopian tubes and ovary. There’s a possibility she may have to undergo another surgery and have the rest removed.

So before Abby even had the chance to heal from her brain surgery she had to have another major surgery and her body is weak and desperately needs time to heal.

But the bills do not stop. Abby needs the support of her community more than ever. She has been the light in so many people’s lives and I know we all want to show her that she is loved, valued, and cared for by so many.
