Support Abby Spadone for RSU 21 School Board

Hello! I am Abby Spadone and I am running for a seat on the RSU 21 School Board. Although I was raised in St. Louis, MO and Kalispell, MT my heart has been in Maine since meeting my husband, Miles. We made a conscious decision to raise our two children in Kennebunk because of the rich life Miles was offered growing up here, with a tightknit community and access to quality public education. I am a steadfast proponent of public schools and believe they are the first introduction of democracy for our children and the bedrock of a strong community. I believe the Kennebunk school district has the power to shape good citizens and productive members of society and I believe I can help in that mission.

As a Clinical Social Worker and a member of the executive leadership team of a local non-profit I have the skills needed to listen and empathize with people’s lived experiences and balance the myriad of demands of a complex system. The critical thinking, data-based decision making, and interdisciplinary nature of my work will serve me well as a representative of the RSU 21 school board. I want to hear the voices of all our stakeholders and work on bridging any gaps that exist between the school board, the administration, the teachers, parents or students.

I am excited to build on the Kennebunk school district’s legacy of excellence where all learning styles are supported and celebrated. First and foremost, I will advocate for a continued prioritization of students, teachers, and administrators. Committed teachers encourage students to actively engage with course material and build critical thinking skills. I believe it is equally important for students to learn in a physically and psychologically safe environment. In the spirit of continuous improvement, I will search for fiscally responsible ways to improve district-wide facilities and programming. Most importantly, I will always make decisions that put student outcomes first.
