Abby Bennett, a sophomore nursing student, cheerleader at Carroll College & Helena native, suffered a cardiac arrest at home on Memorial Day.
Thankfully the event was witnessed by her mom Jessica, RN and Army Veteran, whom immediately started CPR while EMS was en route. Abby’s heart was successfully defibrillated and she awoke in the ambulance on the way to St Petes.
Due to the very serious nature of her heart issue, she required a fixed wing life light to Seattle Children’s Hospital Cardiac ICU. The last 48 hours she has undergone extensive testing and surgery to implant an internal defibrillator.
Abby will require lifelong medication, monitoring, testing and cardiology visits. This episode alone will be very costly for Abby and her family, and any help is appreciated.
Abby looks forward to getting back on her feet for many more renditions of “The Saints Go Marching In” as well as studying towards her RN degree with aspirations of a cardiology specialty!
